LARGE COMMUNAL BATH
Our onsen offers a tranquil escape with distinct bathing experiences. The men’ s bath features a fragrant hinoki cypress tub, while the women’ s bath is set in elegant granite. Immerse yourself in the spacious baths and let the soothing waters wash away your stress. Every three years, the tubs are renewed with fresh Kiso cypress, infusing the air with a gentle wood aroma. Depending on the season, the partition doors between the indoor and outdoor baths open, allowing you to enjoy a refreshing open-air bath. As you soak, gaze at the peaks of the Matsukawa Valley, where white clouds drift by, and feel both body and mind purified. Our sodium-calcium mineral springs offer a therapeutic soak, leaving you feeling light and revitalized.
The Fragrant Five-Million-Koku Bath
The Yamada Onsen hot spring was discovered during the Sengoku period and officially opened in 1798. The name “Five-Million-Koku Bath” comes from the history of our ancestors, who served as chief retainers for the Matsushiro Domain. The men’s bath is made of hinoki cypress, while the women’s bath features granite stone. Both are spacious and provide a relaxing atmosphere. Every three years, we renew the wooden bath with fresh Kiso hinoki wood. As you soak, the magnificent scenery of the Matsukawa Gorge unfolds before you, providing a sense of deep relaxation for both body and mind. The hot spring’s sodium-calcium chloride content is said to be beneficial for various ailments such as nerve pain, joint stiffness, digestive disorders, and fatigue.
OUTDOOR BATH
Our open-air bath, gently caressed by the valley’s breeze, offers a vibrant connection to nature. With a covered roof, you can enjoy it even late at night, experiencing the beauty of rain-kissed greenery, snow-covered mountains, the stillness of midnight, and the changing hues of dawn.
Outdoor Baths – Experience the Changing Seasons
Our open-air baths feature sliding doors that allow the indoor and outdoor areas to blend, creating a sense of openness and immersion in nature. The roofed outdoor baths allow you to enjoy bathing in all weather conditions, from rain-soaked greenery in summer to snow-covered mountains in winter, and even the peaceful silence of the night or the glow of the dawn.
